Goodness me, the weather is absolutely beautiful, for once my room is nice and warm and lovely to work in. But my dad came downstairs today and said “I’ve made an executive decision. TODAY IS A SHORTS DAY” “NO DAD NO” “TOO LATE”.

But you guys aren’t gonna go outside and wear shorts like him, right? You’re gonna stay inside and read comics, right? RIGHT? GOOD.

Cafe Suada Cup 2 is finally in my hands! There was a bit of a delay in them getting to me but Inkylittlefingers have done a top notch job printing them as usual. The colours have come out spot on and I cannot wait to show you all!

Come along to the London MCM Expo this weekend and you can get your hands on a copy. I’ve included a snap of one of the later pages to whet your appetites ;D If you buy the book you get to read the rest of the chapter before it goes up online, good eh?

OHH I LOVE PRINTING COMICS.

I’ll update you guys on expo details as soon as I know my table number and location. I can also announce another event I’ll be attending, called MKomix, which will be happening in July, so more details on that soon.

Flyer I whipped up for I Love Bletchley day tomorrow, a free local thing I have a stall at where I’ll be doing portraits etc. If you or anyone you know are in the Milton Keynes area, come down for the day! Lots of local businesses are taking part.
Also this illustration is a promo for Cup 3! So a lot of text is omitted from this version for spoilery reasons. As soon as Cup 2 is almost over I’ll release the text heavy version with the chapter title and blurb for Cup 3 - but in the meantime I hope you like the illustration itself :)

So Cup 2 has gone to the printers. PHEW. Here’s the cover, I hope you’re all looking forward to it!
Also, the site updated with 7 new pages today, that’s quite a chunk of action there. Go and have a read! http://cafesuada.smackjeeves.com/comics/1489883/public-speaking/

I mentioned on twitter earlier that we had chicks flitting around our green bin, turns out they were waiter chicks and they had something to say!
Cafe Suada now has a set, weekly update schedule: EVERY WEDNESDAY!
So you all better pop along to the site next Wednesday if you’re eager for more comics!
What’s that? You haven’t read Cafe Suada yet? Get your arse into gear and start here! The chicks will be saddened if you don’t visit the cafe.
DO YOU REALLY WANT TO MAKE THE CHICKS SAD YOU HORRIBLE PERSON—

So yesterday I went along to Comica Comiket, and it was such a great day. Many thanks to Paul Gravett and Peter Stanbury for once again running the event. I was sharing with the lovely Lily Rose Beardshaw and Sammy Borras from Inspired Comics. Check out our table^!

In one of the photos you can see our table neighbour Howard Hardiman (The Lengths), and above my head is John Allison (Bad Machinery) who was on the table behind us. Was lovely to meet John, he’d given me some really helpful advice earlier in the year so it was great to thank him in person. It was also hilarious seeing him try to sell a spare duck wrap to people in the afternoon XD (EDIT: Also forgot to mention that Marc Ellerby and Adam Cadwell were opposite us, and I was staring very longingly at the Chloe Noonan tote bags all day.)

The event was absolutely packed, so much that I felt slightly trapped behind my table all day, but I did manage to dive out for a bit to say hello to people. Was good to see Rebecca and Sarah Burgess, who always light up my day, and their Forever12 accomplices Laura Watton, Chloe Citrine, Fred O’Rourke, Chris Bottoms, Anaseed-man, Evelyn Hewett and Gillian Ha.

Throughout the day I watched the remaining Cafe Suada books disappear, and worked on the cover of Cup 2, as well as the plot for Cup 3. I was pretty productive! All because I announced yesterday my intentions to release Cup 2 at the London MCM Expo this May. GET EXCITED, SAVE YOUR PENNIES, CAUSE IT’S A COMIN’ YOUR WAY!

Also as promised yesterday, Cafe Suada updated last night! Off you go!

READ THE UPDATE

The Frames of Mind exhibition opening night was AWESOME. It doubled up as a launch of our Parallel Lives anthology, which you can order on Amazon and Waterstones, or buy direct from the londonprintstudio gallery shop!

Everybody did a great job making the gallery look utterly fantastic. Everyone’s artwork stood out in equal measure. And the night itself was really fun and well worth going. We got to draw all over the windows (I drew Geraldine and Sid, naturally) and spoke to lots of people about the creation of the anthology, as well as our experiences on the comic internship.

We also had a comic panel photobooth going which loads of people took pictures at, I’ll post a link up as soon as we’ve got all those sorted and online. I ended up taking a couple myself with tea related speechbubble dialogue hahaha.

Speaking of tea, I cannot tell you how many times over the night people came up to me and said “I LOVE TEA AS WELL!” before they left… they all seemed to be wearing teahermit badges too… heehee. Made me happy that did. A couple of people were actually surprised to see Cafe Suada in the show, they were long time fans and hadn’t realised it was going to be there! Always good to meet readers of my work.

Highlights of the night were talking to Alex Fitch (we discussed a couple of exciting opportunities, EEK. Stay tuned.), Richy Chandler (who also blogged about the night), John Anderson of Soaring Penguin (very nice guy who let me yammer on about Siddown! to him and his lovely wife. She also loves tea.), Al Davison (who I had to thank immensely for helping me with the early planning stages of Siddown!) and just plain seeing my work displayed so nicely in a gallery space was pretty darn cool.

The show is on for the next week so if you are in the area, do please stop by. It’s an excellent comics exhibition you don’t want to miss!

This also marks the end of my comic internship at the londonprintstudio, which has been… unbelievable. I have been part of such a great team of comickers in the studio, and have learnt so much and really enjoyed the past six months. So I have to thank them for an amazing experience. Thank you Shamisa, Merlin, Lily, Susan, Abe, and Karrie. It’s been fun!

The next month is going to be strange and interesting, I think. Comiket’s coming up, I’ve found an agent interested in representing me, I have a graphic novel that I’ll keep pitching until it gets picked up, and today I got my AOI membership pack which is exciting. I am Jade Sarson, an illustrator and comic artist!

I can do this!

So, Thoughtbubble has popped! I had a great weekend. I had no idea what to expect from the event but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The venue was nice; there was a pretty decent flow of comics fans to the table, it wasn’t cramped like some other events, and I bumped into so many friends over the course of the weekend, it was fantastic. I didn’t sell all of my stock (alas, this bloody recession means that everyone couldn’t buy all the comics they wanted… I really wanted Chester 5000 but I was pretty strict on my spending ;-; ) but I still had a really good time, and lots of people were keen on reading Cafe Suada! I might plonk the copies I have left on Etsy :/

I also got a nice surprise when I actually arrived (I got there late no thanks to the coach service >_>) and saw Dean sitting at my table – he didn’t even tell me he was gonna be there, DAWWWW whatta guy.

What was really fun was Saturday night though. We’d intended on going to the after party for exhibitors, but they wouldn’t let Rowan in! D: boycott I say! So Dean, Evelyn, Sarah, becs, Rowan and I all headed back to our hotel for a SMUSH PARTY. We ended up drawing all night and barely got much sleep, it was so much fun hanging out with them all, so thanks you guys ^_^ These are only a fifth of the drawings we finished, hopefully everyone else will post up the drawings they took home that day too! You can find some of them on tumblr:

Yyyyep. I had a really good time. Thanks everyone!

Also I must do some shoutouts:

Emma Vieceli, Kate brown, and Paul Duffield, was cool to see you guys briefly before we scarpered from the casino XD

Jon Lock, thanks for coming and pimping my work a little ;D

Freddie O’Rourke, Sammy borras (and Sarah, Shaz, and Lily from Inspired comics) Sally Thompson, Karen Rubins, Willie Hewes, and everyone else who stopped by the table, thanks for coming and chatting and buying comics :3

Thanks also to our table neighbours Mister Hope and Robert brown, for er, putting up with us! The guys opposite us were loads of fun too, we had a constant rubber band war going when traffic died down hahaha.

This is the third time I’ve done this write up, so I’m going to quit while I’m ahead heh. Enjoy the drawings, the ones relevant to CS will also go up in the fanart section of the site.

SMUSH!
